Russian Museum Hosts Major Ukrainian Contemporary Art Exhibition Curated by Ekaterina Degot
From May 21 to July 10, 2010, the PERMM Museum of Contemporary Art in Russia presented "ЯКЩО / ЕСЛИ / IF," an exhibition dedicated to Ukrainian contemporary art. Curated by Ekaterina Degot, this event showcased approximately 100 pieces created by 30 artists, marking the first significant exhibition of Ukrainian art outside its borders. The display was divided into four thematic sections: "Maidan," "Wonderland," "Phantoms," and "Dreamers," focusing on themes of political expression and national identity. The second floor highlighted Marat Guelman's "Histories," works by Alexander Roytburd, and the Kharkiv photography school. Featured artists included Zhanna Kadyrova, Nikita Kadan, and Igor Pereklita, with the exhibition also addressing the dynamics of the Russia-Ukraine relationship. The accompanying catalogue contained interviews with collectors.
