Russia warns of 'chaos' in global food market after Ukraine strikes grain terminals

Operations at three major grain terminals in Novorossiysk, Russia, have been suspended due to significant damage from a large drone strike carried out by Ukraine overnight. Sources indicate that grain shipments from this Black Sea port are currently unfeasible due to the destruction of terminal facilities. The United Grain's Novorossiysk Grain Plant experienced a collapse of its loading gallery, while multiple silos sustained damage. Additionally, Demetra's terminal suffered damage to a gallery and truck unloading area, and the KSK terminal was also impacted. These assaults occur amidst increasing attacks on commercial vessels and ports in the Black Sea by both nations, raising supply concerns during the harvest season. Wheat futures in Chicago surged by as much as 4% on Wednesday, marking the largest single-day increase in three weeks. Russia's foreign ministry spokesperson, Maria Zakharova, claimed that Ukrainian strikes on agricultural infrastructure are driving up global food prices and worsening grain shortages, asserting that the actions serve the interests of certain Western countries.
