Rupert Goldsworthy Exhibits Collaborative Paintings in London and Mexico City in January 2012

Rupert Goldsworthy, an artist and writer, is presenting collaborative paintings created with Mark Stewart of the Pop Group at Ritter/Zamet in London during January 2012. Simultaneously, he participates in a group exhibition at Massimo Audiello in Mexico City. His previous solo show occurred in October at Illuminated Metropolis Gallery in Chelsea, New York, where he will also curate a group exhibition in February. Goldsworthy, who splits his time between New York City, Berlin, and London, emphasizes the importance of personal fascination in his creative process, stating he can only paint what hypnotizes him. He draws inspiration from everyday ephemera like street scraps or song lyrics, seeking to spotlight their elusive beauty and history. His artistic methodology involves reproducing or hybridizing unique objects or designs to unlock their mystery. Goldsworthy identifies with maverick artists and grassroots scenes, admiring figures like Félix González-Torres, Andy Warhol, Bruce LaBruce, Johan Grimonprez, Inka Essenhigh, Marilyn Minter, Hans Haacke, and Art & Language. As a curator, he selects artists whose technical or conceptual abilities surpass his own, focusing on topics that are both edgy and personally compelling. He believes success in the art world hinges on personal integrity, generosity, and ethical engagement rather than institutional recognition.
