Runblock: Sunscreen Branding for Runners Melts in the Heat
Graphic designers Tess Lockhart and George Fletcher have created a new visual identity for Runblock, a sunscreen brand aimed at runners. The design deliberately eschews the typical clinical or beach-ready aesthetics of sun care products, instead anchoring the brand in the sensations of running in the sun: sweat, heat, glare, and shine. The wordmark, built from scratch, features softened, rounded letterforms that swell and merge, conveying a sense of melting under heat. Motion design by Lawrie Miller adds a reactive, slightly irregular kinetic quality, further emphasizing the physical experience of running in the sun. The product packaging is designed to feel like a piece of running kit—secure, durable, and premium—rather than a conventional skincare product. The overall identity blends sport, fashion, and technology, with a forward-looking yet nostalgic Y2K vibe. The project was developed by Tess and George, who combine their respective strengths in typography and editorial design, and was featured on It's Nice That in August 2026.
