Rugiyatou Ylva Jallow Debuts Fashion Line and Paintings at Market Art Fair
During Stockholm Art Week, Rugiyatou Ylva Jallow, a Swedish Gambian artist, showcased her most ambitious projects yet at the 20th anniversary of the Market Art Fair and Ross-Sutton Gallery. Among her works is a fashion collaboration with The Mack Art Foundation and the Swedish label A Day's March, featuring unique accessories and hand-embellished garments, with only 30 pieces available throughout the event. Jallow also displayed new paintings depicting resting and reclining women, influenced by Renaissance artists and set against Sweden's natural landscapes. This exhibition marked her first solo presentation in Sweden with albertz benda since relocating to Los Angeles. Her art emphasizes positive portrayals of Black and biracial women, challenging historical trauma narratives. An upcoming solo show with albertz benda in New York is planned for later this year.
