Rudy Ricciotti's Brutalist Villas at FIAC 2007

architecture-design · 2026-04-23

At FIAC 2007, the architecture of Rudy Ricciotti, winner of the 2006 Prix national d'architecture, was highlighted. His Stadium in Vitrolles, built fifteen years prior, resembles a WWII submarine base with discordant decorative treatment bordering on baroque. Ricciotti's villas blend roughness and sophistication: Villa Lyprendi in Toulon features two horizontal concrete slabs facing the sea with simple glazing, while Villa Navarra is even more excessive, a long slit flat in the natural landscape, conceived as a defensive shelter.
