Rubner Haus unveils sustainable wooden newsstand in Milan

architecture-design · 2026-04-27

Architecture firm Rubner Haus has launched a 21st-century newsstand in Milan's Piazza della Resistenza partigiana, designed by ABC – Architetti Barban Cappellari of Vicenza. The structure is made almost entirely of wood, chosen for its low environmental impact, hygroscopic properties, and energy efficiency. The kiosk opens and closes like a flower, with movable elements revealing dark grey lacquered wood and anthracite steel profiles by day. CEO Deborah Zani emphasized the project's focus on environmental, living, and ethical-cultural sustainability, positioning the newsstand as a regenerating urban asset that fosters social interaction.
