Rubens Year in Antwerp: Tintoretto from Bowie Collection on Loan

exhibition · 2026-05-04

The triennial program Flemish Masters 2018-2020 includes Antwerp Baroque 2018: Rubens Inspires, which highlights the work of Peter Paul Rubens across seven locations. At the Rubenshuis, overseen by Ben van Beneden, the exhibition 'Rubens' Return' runs from June 1 to September 2, showcasing a restored self-portrait alongside a Tintoretto altarpiece from David Bowie's collection, currently on loan. This altarpiece is set to be displayed in Venice during the 2019 Biennale. Other participating venues are the Cathedral of Our Lady, Church of St. Paul, Plantin-Moretus Museum, Church of St. Charles Borromeo, Snijders & Rockox House, Church of St. James, and the expanding Rubenshuis. The Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp is undergoing renovations, while the MAS features a Michaelina Wautier retrospective during the same dates.
