Ruben Montini's 'Un dovere morale' at Prometeo Gallery Milan
Prometeo Gallery opens a second space in Milan with Ruben Montini's solo exhibition 'Un dovere morale,' running from May 2021. Montini (born 1986, Oristano) presents 'Lame' (2021), a series of 49 works on canvas listing Italian homophobic slurs in dialect, embroidered on Sardinian brocade, lace, and velvet, with words cut from red silk organza. The show also includes works by Nicolò Bruno, Prinz Gholam, and Karol Radzisewski, exploring homo-affectivity. Montini's performances 'Frocio' (2009) and 'Se non uccide fortifica' (2020) challenge heteronormative stereotypes, using his body to critique Italian institutions. 'Un figlio imprevisto' depicts his mother's dashed expectations of a 'normal' pregnancy. In 'Did you ever fall in love again?' (2019), performed at Teatro Marittimo di Villa Adriana, Tivoli, Montini wraps himself in bubble wrap, questioning invisibility. The exhibition is reviewed by Vittoria Mascellaro on Artribune.
