Ruben Luna and Gilberto Rocha's 'Yonke EncontraDOS' at Laredo Center for the Arts

The exhibition 'Yonke EncontraDOS' at the Laredo Center for the Arts, curated by Rigoberto Luna, features works by Ruben Luna and Gilberto Rocha that explore rasquachismo, a term reappropriated by Chicano Studies scholar Tomás Ybarra-Frausto in 1989. The show, on view through August 7, 2026, celebrates the resourcefulness of working-class Latino communities. Rocha's 'Between Two Worlds' incorporates a book on Mexican immigrants and a Los Tigres Del Norte cassette. Luna's 'Chill' uses a deflated police baton and neon sign to critique patriarchy, inspired by George Floyd's murder. Rocha's 'Casa de Cambio' addresses divorce and societal expectations. The artists collaborated on 'Lo Que Sobra, Es Lo Que Hay,' focusing on border food culture. The exhibition was previously shown at Presa House in San Antonio.
