RTA Studio completes mass-timber groundscraper in Auckland for Fisher & Paykel

In Auckland, New Zealand, RTA Studio has finalized a mass-timber office structure that will serve as the global headquarters for Fisher & Paykel and Haier Australasia. Spanning 11,500 square meters, this campus comprises a three-story design featuring offices and research spaces, constructed using a diagrid system of locally sourced pine, positioning it among the largest mass-timber buildings in the country. Richard Naish, the studio's founder, characterized the design as a 'continuous ribbon' encircling a safeguarded inner landscape. This 'groundscraper' mitigates noise at the entrance while opening up to a wetland area. Additionally, it boasts a digitally crafted timber frame, 1,159 solar panels, and a research facility of approximately 5,000 square meters over two floors. The development follows other significant timber structures, such as Sydney's tallest timber tower.
