Royal Mail releases architectural stamp series featuring iconic UK buildings
The Royal Mail has issued a new collection of stamps celebrating ten of the most audacious and visionary examples of British architecture, selected for their structural daring and ability to enhance the identity of entire neighborhoods. The series includes the Blavatnik Building (formerly Switch House) at Tate Modern by Herzog & de Meuron, the London Aquatics Centre by Zaha Hadid Architects, the Library of Birmingham by Francine Houben of Mecanoo architecten, the SEC Armadillo in Glasgow by Foster + Partners, the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh by Enric Miralles and Benedetta Tagliabue (EMBT), the Giant's Causeway Visitor Centre in Northern Ireland by Heneghan Peng Architects, the National Assembly for Wales in Cardiff by Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, the Eden Project in St Austell by Nicholas Grimshaw, the Everyman Theatre in Liverpool by Haworth Tompkins Architects, and the Imperial War Museum North in Manchester by Daniel Libeskind. The stamp designs were created by London agency GBH, with photographs by the award-winning duo Hufton + Crow, Mark McCall, and Hangloose. Philip Parker, Stamp Strategy Manager of Royal Mail, described the buildings as "visionary examples" that combine with "great engineering." The collection is now on sale.
