cultural-heritage · 2026-04-26

The Royal Mail has launched a series of eight exclusive stamps celebrating the 75th anniversary of Charles M. Schulz's Peanuts comic strip, first published on October 2, 1950. The stamps feature iconic characters including Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Lucy, Linus, Schroeder, and Peppermint Patty, drawn from over 17,000 daily strips published across five decades in newspapers such as the Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, and Allentown Call-Chronicle. The Peanuts debuted in Italy on February 20, 1961, in the newspaper Paese Sera. Umberto Eco once described the strip as a microcosm and a small human comedy for both naive and sophisticated readers. The series has been translated into over twenty languages and published in more than seventy countries, inspiring numerous animated adaptations, two feature films, and a musical comedy.
