Royal Academy of Arts Announces Major Redevelopment for 250th Anniversary

institutional · 2026-04-20

A £12.7 million Heritage Lottery Fund grant supports the Royal Academy of Arts' ambitious redevelopment project. Architect Sir David Chipperfield CBE RA designed the plans, which will physically connect Burlington House and Burlington Gardens for the first time. This transformation coincides with the institution's 250th anniversary in 2018. New exhibition galleries, a lecture theater, and an educational center will be created. The RA Schools will gain dedicated spaces that better integrate them with the Academy's broader programming. Private donors have also contributed significant funding to the initiative.
