Roy Lichtenstein Returns to Amsterdam with Moco Museum Show

exhibition · 2026-05-05

Roy Lichtenstein (New York, 1923-1997) is the subject of a new exhibition at the Moco Museum in Amsterdam, titled "Roy Lichtenstein – Lasting Influence." The show, running from November 3, 2017, to May 31, 2018, explores the enduring recognizability of his works and their integration into collective cultural consciousness. It marks the artist's return to the Dutch capital fifty years after his 1967 retrospective at the Pasadena Art Museum, which traveled to Amsterdam, London, Bern, and Hanover. The Moco Museum, founded by gallerists and collectors Lionel and Kim Loghies of Lionel Gallery, specializes in modern and contemporary art with a focus on street art. A highlight is a 3D room with period furnishings, previously presented in 2000 at the Van Gogh Museum, recreating Lichtenstein's 1992 painting "Bedroom at Arles," itself based on a postcard of Vincent van Gogh's famous triptych "The Bedroom" (1888-89).
