Rossini Opera Festival 2017 Reports Economic Impact, Presents Three Productions
The 2017 Rossini Opera Festival (ROF) in Pesaro, held August 10–22, released its 2016 Social Report showing that for every euro of public funding, 7–8 euros are generated for the local and national economy. The festival attracted press from 79 countries. Three operas were staged: Le Siège de Corinthe (Rossini's first French opera), La Pietra del Paragone, and Torvaldo e Dorliska. La Pietra del Paragone, directed by Pier Luigi Pizzi, was the standout success, reimagined as a 1960s reality show with a pool. Le Siège de Corinthe, directed by Carlus Padrissa of La Fura dels Baus, set the action in a timeless war over water. Torvaldo e Dorliska, directed by Mario Martone, was a revival of a 2006 production. The festival also included Il Viaggio a Reims with young singers from the Accademia Rossiniana.
