Rosemarie Trockel's Baroque Dialogue with Turin Collections at Pinacoteca Agnelli
The Pinacoteca Agnelli in Turin presents a solo exhibition by German artist Rosemarie Trockel (born 1952, Schwerte), curated by Paolo Colombo. The show juxtaposes Trockel's works with pieces from Turin's collections, including six oil portraits and four late Renaissance drawings from the Biblioteca Reale. A central photographic installation uses color to separate old and new: the lower wall and floor are painted in a single hue, displaying seventeen framed photographic portraits of the artist's friends and acquaintances, while above, on a lighter background, hang historical portraits. Another section features ceramic mirrors that distort rather than reflect, exploring the rhetoric of vision and reality. Trockel's career includes participation in the 1997 Venice Biennale, solo shows at MCA Chicago and Serpentine London, and Documenta. The exhibition continues Turin's tradition of linking contemporary artists with its eclectic museum heritage, following last year's Ed Ruscha show that engaged with the Lombroso Museum, the Museum of Fake Fruit, and the Agriculture Academy.
