Rosemarie Beck and Paul Resika's 1968-69 Lovers Drawings Exhibition at Lori Bookstein Fine Art

exhibition · 2026-04-22

Lori Bookstein Fine Art in New York presents "LOVERS: Drawings by Rosemarie Beck and Paul Resika, 1968-69" from February 14 through March 12, 2004. The exhibition features intimate drawings created during 1968-69 when both artists worked from the same couple in a Washington Square studio. Paul Resika's pastels display frenzied, X-rated energy with hot orange and pink contrasts, some surviving a studio fire with sfumage effects. Rosemarie Beck offers classical equilibrium through her drawings, referencing Shakespeare, Ovid, Titian, Michelangelo, Correggio, and Tiepolo while exploring negative space erotics. Resika's approach creates visceral immediacy, while Beck brings post-coital languor and hermetic symbolism. The works contrast Resika's Dionysian intensity with Beck's Apollonian serenity, both capturing lovers' poses during winter 1968-69.
