Rosa Maria Unda Souki Explores Frida Kahlo's Blue House in Madrid Exhibition

exhibition · 2026-04-24

From December 11, 2013, to January 18, 2014, the Institut français de Madrid will showcase 'Esquina Londres y Allende,' a series by Venezuelan artist Rosa Maria Unda Souki, who earned the special jury prize at the 2011 Salon de Montrouge. This exhibition comprises paintings and drawings inspired by Frida Kahlo's Casa Azul in Coyoacán, Mexico. Unda Souki, who has studied in Brazil and resided in France, interprets interiors as reflections of herself. Her earlier works include 'Espaces intimes' (2006) and 'Expropriation' (2011). For her Kahlo series, she delved into the archives of the Blue House, weaving in elements from Kahlo's life, including her childhood, marriage to Diego Rivera, and later experiences.
