other · 2026-04-26

The film 'L'amore che ho', directed by Paolo Licata and inspired by the official biography written by Rosa Balistreri's son Luca Torregrossa, is now in theaters from May 8, distributed by Wanted. It premiered at the 42nd Torino Film Festival. The movie sheds light on the life of the Sicilian folk singer, born in Licata on March 21, 1927, who survived an attempted murder of her husband, imprisonment, and abuse before finding refuge in Florence with painter Manfredi Lombardi. Lombardi introduced her to artists like Mario De Micheli, Ignazio Buttitta, and Dario Fo, who featured her in his show 'Ci ragiono e canto'. In 1974, she performed on 'Canzonissima'. Her birthplace at via Martinez 42 in Licata opened as a museum on March 21, 2024. The film stars Lucia Sardo, Donatella Finocchiaro, Anita Pomario, and Martina Ziami as Balistreri at different ages, with Carmen Consoli composing the soundtrack and playing the role of Alice. Consoli stated, 'In us singers of my land there is a part of her.'
