Rosa Aiello's Linguistic Puzzles at Casa Masaccio

exhibition · 2026-05-05

Casa Masaccio – Centro per l'arte contemporanea in San Giovanni Valdarno presents a new exhibition by Canadian artist Rosa Aiello (born 1987, Hamilton) as part of the Toscanaincontemporanea2017 project. In the rooms where the painter Masaccio grew up, Aiello transforms the space into a visual formalization of her novel-in-progress, 'Calypso's way,' whose prologue is released on this occasion. The exhibition features minimal interventions: video projections, sound stimuli, linguistic devices, and recurring 'magic squares'—tiles with painted letters that evoke a Mediterranean matrix and a dimension removed from material urgencies. The phrase 'Fate presto' is reiterated throughout, generating short circuits and openings for other narratives. Visitors are tasked with solving linguistic puzzles where variations of the word 'fate' create multiple interpretations.
