Root Cabin: A Minimalist Prefab Retreat in Zakynthos

architecture-design · 2026-04-27

London-based architecture practice Kasawoo has completed the Root Cabin, a 20-square-meter prefabricated timber retreat in Zakynthos, Greece. Designed as a response to tourism-driven development, the 2.5m x 8m cabin champions minimalism and off-grid living, contrasting with the island's sprawling concrete villas. The project was curated by Hadir Al Koshta, built by Eco Tiny Homes and Tiny Home Greece, and photographed by Jim Stephenson. Completed in 2025, the cabin is nestled among vineyards and olive groves, emphasizing cultural rootedness and sustainability.
