Roni Horn's Elusive Identity Explored in Exhibition Celebrating Joan Miró Award

exhibition · 2026-04-20

The exhibition by Roni Horn will be inaugurated at CaixaForum Madrid on 13 November 2014, in honor of her Joan Miró Award, which comes with a €70,000 prize. The American artist's creations reveal a complex identity through diverse methods. In her work a.k.a. (2008–9), diptychs portray Horn at various life stages, while You Are the Weather, Part 2 (2011) revisits the same subject after a 15-year gap. Her voyeuristic piece, Her, Her, Her, and Her (2002), includes 64 images taken from changing rooms in Reykjavík. Horn also delves into Iceland's geological features and water in Untitled (2012–13) and Still Water (The River Thames, for Example) (1999), incorporating quotes from Emily Dickinson and Clarice Lispector to illustrate her themes of appropriation and identity.
