Romeo Castellucci's 'Resurrection' Installation Returns to Paris with Esa-Pekka Salonen
Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 2 'Resurrection,' directed by Romeo Castellucci, will be performed in Paris at the Grande Halle de la Villette from November 28-30, 2024. This production, which debuted at the Aix-en-Provence Festival in 2022, features the Orchestre de Paris conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen. Castellucci's vision includes powerful imagery of mass graves and UN workers unearthing bodies, drawing inspiration from NGOs involved in identifying remains. He highlights the laborers' efforts rather than the deceased. Originally conceived prior to the Ukraine conflict and the October 7 attacks, the production's themes have taken on new significance. It also showcases a white horse, workers in action, and concludes with a curtain of rain. Co-produced by Philharmonie de Paris, La Villette, Abu Dhabi Festival, and Teatro Colón.
