Romeo Castellucci named Grand Invité at Triennale Milano for four years

Romeo Castellucci, the Cesena-born artist who won the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale and is a Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres of the French Republic, has been appointed Grand Invité of Triennale Milano from January 2021 through the end of 2024. This unprecedented collaboration in Italy involves Castellucci in all aspects of Triennale's activities, including theater commissions, international co-productions, site-specific projects, writing, visual arts, critical thought, and set design. The partnership also extends to educational, editorial, and exhibition programs. Umberto Angelini, Artistic Director of Triennale Milano Teatro, called the collaboration "a great act of joy" and noted that society demands high questions requiring a radical and powerful perspective, which Castellucci's work embodies. Stefano Boeri, President of Triennale Milano, described Castellucci as a visionary artist who creates at the intersection of disciplines and languages, reflecting Triennale's approach to culture. Castellucci expressed his need for Milan and Triennale, stating a common vocation calls him and he feels he cannot miss this appointment, which must translate into images worthy of the questions this era imposes.
