Rome's Trullo Market Stalls Transformed into Artist Studios for Biennial Residency Project

exhibition · 2026-04-26

The Trullo market in Rome is hosting the first edition of 'Il Mercato dell'Arte', a biennial project that repurposes inactive market stalls into temporary artist studios. Directed by Alessandra Muschella, the initiative selected seven artists—Linda Pennacchia, Alessandro Fornaci, Solo e Diamond, Er Pinto, Daniele Tozzi, and Kenji De Angelis—via an open call. On November 29, 2025, they will open their studios to the community, presenting works spanning photography, painting, urban poetry, digital art, and installation. The project aims to transform empty commercial spaces into sites of artistic research and community engagement. Artists are not mere guests but 'activators of place', creating site-specific works through daily interaction with merchants and residents. These works will be donated to the community, forming a small distributed gallery in the market and nearby public spaces. The residency is process-oriented and community-specific, with the next edition's call opening around September 20, 2026, for residencies in November 2026 across four dedicated stalls.
