Rome's Torquato Tasso High School Transforms into Museum with Student-Curated Exhibition
The Liceo Classico Torquato Tasso in Rome, founded in 1887, is hosting the exhibition "Il ritmo della vita degli uomini" in its Aula Magna until May 19. The project, conceived by Massimo Osanna (Director General of Museums), involves students in cataloging, studying, and installing 50 artifacts recovered from illegally excavated tombs by the Carabinieri. The artifacts, dating from the 7th century BCE to the 2nd century CE, include busts of Heracles and Aphrodite, kylikes, amphorae, craters, and plates. Students organized the works into four themes—Man, God, Courage, and Love—and paired them with verses from Homer, Aeschylus, Sophocles, Euripides, and Virgil. The school building, designed by engineer Mario Moretti, won a gold medal at the 1910 Brussels Universal Exposition for its innovative architecture.
