Rome's Tiber River Navigation Project and Castel Sant'Angelo Restoration

The Italian Ministry of Infrastructure and Sustainable Mobility (MIMS) has put forward a navigation initiative for the Tiber River, stretching from Castel Giubileo to Fiumicino, which will be financed through the EU's Next Generation EU funds via the PNRR. This initiative encompasses the development of navigation infrastructure, docking facilities, and a public transport system utilizing hybrid boats. New landing stages will function as small river stations, featuring various amenities and enhanced accessibility. Additionally, the design for Rome's Metro Line C will introduce a new San Pietro station adjacent to Castel Sant'Angelo. The goal is to rejuvenate the relationship between the city and the river, restore bastions, and establish a river exchange hub, necessitating a collaborative design approach. Potential co-financing may come from the MIC's Strategic Plan for Major Cultural Heritage Projects.
