Rome's smallest theatre opens in former carpentry workshop

The Piccolo Teatro di Prova, one of Italy's smallest theatres, opens in Rome's Alessandrino district on January 25, 2026. Converted from a historic carpentry workshop at Via del Campo 16c, the venue is created by Compagnia della Farsa, founded by Luca Pennacchioni and Claudia Spedaliere. The space seats audiences in an intimate setting with air conditioning, good acoustics, and comfortable seating, aiming to replicate the close actor-spectator relationship of off-theatres in New York or London. Its debut season, "Comici… al Piccolo," opens with Claudio Sciara's monologue "50 e giù" and includes performances by Compagnia della Farsa, Marina Vitolo with pianist Rocco Donati, Salvatore Mazza, and national names like Marco Capretti, Giorgio Gori, Achiropita Dalila Bosco, Enzo Casertano, and Alessandra Merico. Shows run Fridays and Saturdays at 9 PM, Sundays at 6 PM. Beyond performances, the theatre aims to serve as a cultural laboratory and community hub for the Alessandrino neighborhood.
