Rome's Piazza Venezia Christmas Tree Features 17 Gift Boxes for UN Sustainable Development Goals
Under the Christmas tree in Piazza Venezia, Rome, 17 large gift boxes have been placed, each representing one of the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The installation is part of the "Natale a Roma" project promoted by FAO, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Municipality of Rome, and Acea. Each box bears a QR code linking to a web app developed by Orpheo, which provides audio and video content and tips for adopting a more sustainable lifestyle. The app requires no download and also includes sections on sustainable tourism and instructions for the "Roma by Light" contest, running until January 10, 2022. The project extends to Rome's suburbs, with 14 additional Christmas trees placed in each municipal district, all mapped on the app. FAO Director-General QU Dongyu stated that the gifts under the "Tree of Actions" serve as a guide for individual change through simple daily actions. The initiative aims to promote collaboration for a more sustainable society in both urban and rural areas, focusing on better production, nutrition, environment, and life for all, leaving no one behind.
