Rome's Palatine and Drugstore Museum merge contemporary art with archaeology

exhibition · 2026-04-27

Rome continues to blend contemporary art with archaeology through the reopening of two spaces. The Uccelliere Farnesiane on the Palatine Hill, within the Parco Archeologico del Colosseo, hosts its first contemporary art exhibition: 'Frammenti. Il Teorema di Pasolini nelle immagini di Laurent Fiévet,' curated by Maria Laura Cavaliere, running until January 8, 2023. The show features a video installation by French artist Laurent Fiévet, who reworks Pasolini's 1968 film 'Teorema' into 12 videos overlaid with Caravaggio paintings. The Uccelliere complex, restored in 2018, now includes new lighting visible from Via dei Fori Imperiali. Meanwhile, the Drugstore Museum and Circuito Necropoli Portuense on Via Portuense launch a 2022–2023 program with the exhibition 'Virus Group. Napoli New York Corviale,' featuring works by Giulio Ceraldi, Consuelo Cecchini, Stefano De Santis, and Giancarlo Savino of the Virus Group, a collective rooted in 1970s Naples and pioneers of public art in Italy. The exhibition runs until November 27 in the imperial-era tombs and museum spaces. The Soprintendenza Speciale di Roma, directed by Daniela Porro, promotes this dialogue between archaeology and contemporary art. The Circuito Necropoli Portuense Drugstore Museum, led by De Cristofaro, plans exhibitions, meetings, courses, conferences, concerts, and performances, collaborating with Municipio XI.
