Rome's New Year's Day 2024: 80 Free Cultural Events Across the City
Rome's third edition of Roma Capodarte offers over 80 free cultural events on January 1, 2024, hosted in 50 venues including museums, libraries, theaters, and churches. The initiative features exhibitions, concerts, guided tours, conferences, and workshops. Five light installations by Mimmo Paladino, Marco Tirelli, Pietro Ruffo, Marinella Senatore, and Fulvio Caldarelli, curated by Achille Bonito Oliva, illuminate the city until January 7 under the theme 'Luci d'artista per la pace.' Civic museums open free of charge. Guided tours include Fidia with Alessandra Avigliano, Helmut Newton with Daniela Angelucci, Augusto with Paolo Quintili, and Emilio Prini with Stefano Chiodi. The Teatro Costanzi offers tours led by marginalized individuals from L'Osservatore della Strada and Binario 95. Musical events include Dialoghi sinfonici by Europa InCanto Orchestra at Musei Capitolini, a Vivaldi concert at Ara Pacis, jazz by Nicky Nicolai and Stefano Di Battista at Centrale Montemartini, tango by Astor Piazzolla at Museo di Roma in Trastevere, and a djset by Donpasta at Mercati di Traiano. The Millevoci project involves all 15 municipalities with 15 concerts at 17:30. Children's activities include MACRO Loop video art and philosophy workshops. The program anticipates the XXV World Congress of Philosophy in Rome in August 2024.
