Rome's New Museums and Art Fair Signal Contemporary Art Awakening
The contemporary art landscape in Rome has been invigorated with the launch of the Maxxi (Museo nazionale delle arti del XXI secolo) designed by Zaha Hadid and the Macro (Museo d'arte contemporanea Roma), which has a new wing by Odile Decq. This coincides with the Roma art fair taking place from May 27–30, 2010. Although faced with obstacles like a challenging location and a scarcity of international galleries, notable participants such as Mazzoleni, Toselli, and emerging spaces like Magazzino made an impact. Achille Bonito Oliva curated Cose Mai Viste, which highlights significant Italian collections. The Maxxi's inaugural exhibition features Gino de Dominicis, while Spazio showcases works by Anish Kapoor and others. The Macro's extension includes a striking red auditorium cube, presenting a blend of themes and generations.
