Rome's Mattatoio Reopens with Re-Creatures Summer Program

Rome's Mattatoio, a former slaughterhouse turned cultural center, reopens on June 24, 2021, with the summer program "Re-Creatures," curated by Ilaria Mancia. The program features animal-themed video installations and performances exploring human-nature relations. Highlights include Pierre Huyghe's "Human Mask" (inspired by Fukushima), Revital Cohen and Tuur Balen's "The Odds (part 1)," and Valentina Furlan's "Ciacco" (winner of Cantica 21, co-produced by Azienda Speciale Palaexpo). Live performances start June 24 with Lorenzo Senni, followed by Kate McIntosh's "To Speak Light Pours Out" (June 26-27). July events include Antonia Baehr's "Abecedarium Bestiarium" (July 20-21), Stefan Kaegi's "Temple du présent. Solo for an octopus" (July 22), Alexia Sarantopoulou's "Emilio" (July 23), Simone Aughterlony's performance and talk (July 25-26), a concert by Nada (July 27), Giulia Crispiani and Golrokh Nafisi's "The City We Imagine" (July 28), and Agrupación Señor Serrano's interactive show (July 29). The program also includes talks with Matteo Meschiari, Emanuele Coccia, and Giovanni Attili. Cesare Pietroiusti, President of Azienda Speciale Palaexpo, emphasizes the reopening of outdoor spaces long closed to the public.
