Rome's La Rampa opens as cultural hub in former parking garage
A former seven-story parking garage at Via Aquilonia 52 in Rome's Prenestino district has been transformed into La Rampa, a cultural experimentation space inaugurated on September 30. The building, originally a warehouse for the Teatro dell'Opera, later served as a school in the late 1960s, a shelter for the homeless in the 1980s, and a hub for Rome's underground scene. Previous plans for the site included a 'Museo della Metafisica' with 500 works by Giorgio de Chirico under former mayor Ignazio Marino, and a street art museum proposed by V Municipio president Giovanni Boccuzzi, both abandoned due to funding issues. In 2019, the third floor was assigned to Centro Rampi for cultural use, involving groups like Aps Il Condominio, which won the Artes et Iubilaeum – 2025 public tender. La Rampa's inaugural exhibition, Moebius, is a site-specific installation by VideoSolid, part of a program running until December 31. Other works include BrainRot by Studio Cliché and Canyfsound, Wet Signals by Ultravioletto, Degradation by Thomas T. Fasciana (presented December 13), and Om Mundi by Field A1 (from December 14). Marta Fantini, president of APS Il Condominio, stated that new installations will be revealed gradually. The space is open Thursday to Sunday, 6 PM to midnight, with free admission.
