Rome's Historic Cinema Troisi Reopens as Cultural Hub

After six years of legal battles and restoration, the historic Cinema Troisi in Rome's Trastevere district reopens on September 21, 2021, with the Italian premiere of Julia Ducournau's Palme d'Or winner 'Titane'. The cinema, originally designed by Luigi Moretti in 1933 and inaugurated in 1937 as Cinema Induno, has been revived by the Associazione Piccolo America, a youth group that previously saved the Cinema America from demolition. The restored venue features a 300-seat theater with state-of-the-art projection technology, a 24/7 study-library with 80 workstations, and a future restaurant space. The project was supported by Rome's municipal government, the Ministry of Culture, Regione Lazio via Lazio Innova, BNL-BNP Paribas, SIAE, Iberdrola as green partner, and TIM as digital sponsor. The reopening marks the culmination of the association's decade-long efforts to revive historic cinemas and bring film to public squares across Rome. Federico Croce, general director of Piccolo America, described the venue as unique in Europe. Tickets for 'Titane' go on sale September 10.
