Rome's Festival of Green and Landscape Returns with Urban Ecology Focus

The Festival del Verde e del Paesaggio returns to Rome for a long weekend from May 13 to 15, 2022, at the Auditorium Parco della Musica. Founded in 2010, the event promotes green culture and landscape in cities, emphasizing nature as an ally and urban regeneration through green spaces, pedestrian areas, and bike lanes. It features 150 exhibitors and 8,000 plants, alongside art installations, conferences, and competitions. A key conference titled 'Trees Give Oxygen to Cities' addresses the need for urban forests. Other events cover sustainable tourism, edible herbs and flowers, and workshops like 'Cooking the Garden Month by Month.' The festival highlights citizen-driven greening of balconies, terraces, and courtyards, framing these as 'landscapes of the everyday.' Notable initiatives include 'Follie d'autore,' a section by garden designer Franco Zagari featuring ephemeral structures. Founder and director Gaia Zadra states, 'The future is not a place to go, but a landscape to create.' The festival also offers 15 workshops, including 'Inhabiting One's Own Color,' and lessons on turning balconies into nature-connected spaces.
