Rome's Centro della Fotografia opens with Irving Penn retrospective and contemporary shows
The Centro della Fotografia di Roma inaugurated in January 2026 within the regenerated Mattatoio complex, occupying 1,500 square meters of Pavilion 9D. The inaugural exhibition, on view until June 29, 2026, features a retrospective of Irving Penn curated by Pascal Hoël, Frédérique Dolivet, and Alessandra Mauro, with 109 prints from the Maison Européenne de la Photographie collection (1939–2007). Alongside, the contemporary section Campo Visivo presents "Corpi reali, corpi immaginati" curated by Daria Scolamacchia, featuring Kensuke Koike, Alix Marie, and Forough Alaei. On the upper floor, Silvia Camporesi's solo show "C'è un tempo e un luogo" curated by Federica Muzzarelli offers a slower-paced experience. The center aims to establish a dialogue between historical and contemporary photography within the former slaughterhouse's industrial architecture.
