Rome relaunches youth art space at Mattatoio with new call for proposals

institutional · 2026-05-05

Rome's city administration has issued a public call for project proposals to revitalize FACTORY, a youth art space at the former Mattatoio di Testaccio. Originally opened in 2013 as the Nuovo Spazio Giovani di Roma, the 1,500-square-meter venue in the Pelanda dei Suini offers free rent and utilities to young artists. The new initiative, limited to 2018, seeks proposals from artistic associations, companies, foundations, and public/private institutions. The available space includes an 800-square-meter room and five 30-square-meter ateliers, equipped with a stage, theatrical lighting, sound and video systems, and portable exhibition panels. Proposed activities—exhibitions, performances, workshops, seminars—must be free, last no more than 15 days (including setup and teardown), and target a young audience. The deadline for submissions is November 30, 2018, at 12:30 PM. Councillor for Sports, Youth Policies, and Major City Events Daniele Frongia stated that the initiative aims to foster urban growth and intergenerational dialogue through art and performance.
