Rome Opens Artist Studios to Public with 'Roma Città Aperta'

The project 'Roma Città Aperta', winner of the Estate Romana call, launches a mapping of artists living and working in Rome by opening their studios to the public throughout August. Curated by Raffaella Frascarelli and Sabrina Vedovotto, the initiative aims to offer a new experience of contemporary art through direct encounters with artists in their workspaces. The first visit was with artist Francesca Leone, followed by Elena Bellantoni on August 2 at her studio in San Giovanni in Laterano, and later Alfredo Pirri, Gioacchino Pontrelli, and Tito Marci on August 28, 29, and 31 respectively. The program also includes the screening of the docufilm 'Roma Isola Aperta' by MonkeyVideoLab, which features testimonies from artists reflecting on current socio-political issues, premiered on October 19 at the MAXXI Museum. Additionally, artist Iginio De Luca will perform an urban action on August 21, involving a truck with two large billboards that will calligraphically transcribe a distant, emotional dialogue between him and his mother, traveling through Rome's memory-laden places. Young students from Academies of Fine Arts will act as cultural mediators and document the events.
