Rome Film Festival 2018: Scorsese, Huppert, and a Focus on Women and Memory
The 13th Rome Film Festival (Festa del Cinema di Roma) has announced its program under the artistic direction of Antonio Monda, now in his fourth year. Monda identified three key themes: women (with 12 female directors), memory (including four documentaries on racial laws and deportations from the Rome and Warsaw ghettos), and documentaries. The festival will open with 'Bad Times at the El Royale' by Drew Goddard and 'Notti magiche' by Paolo Virzì. Career achievement awards will be given to Martin Scorsese and Isabelle Huppert. Other notable attendees include Cate Blanchett, Michael Moore, Shirin Neshat, and Sigourney Weaver. The Italian lineup includes films by Paolo Virzì and Edoardo De Angelis. The festival also features 'Incontri Ravvicinati' (close encounters) with international and Italian artists.
