Romanian Pavilion at 2019 Venice Biennale Features Făinaru, Mihălțianu, Onucsán
At the 58th Venice Biennale, running from May 11 to November 24, 2019, the Romanian Pavilion showcases "Unfinished Conversations on the Weight of Absence," featuring the works of artists Belu-Simion Făinaru, Dan Mihălțianu, and Miklós Onucsán. The exhibition, curated by Cristian Nae and organized by Plan B Foundation and Gallery, takes place across two locations: the Romania Pavilion at the Giardini and Palazzo Correr. It reflects on historical projects from the last four decades, adapting counter-monumental installations to engage with themes of nationalism and populism, while also considering the Romanian diaspora. Other participating nations include Italy, Georgia, Taiwan, Mongolia, Iceland, Brazil, UAE, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Poland, Turkey, Pakistan, Spain, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Portugal, and India. Kazakhstan withdrew due to budget constraints.
