Roman Collective Salò on Music, Performance, and Reviving the Baronato Quattro Bellezze

artist · 2026-04-26

The Roman collective Salò, formed in 2019 and currently comprising Toni Cutrone, Cosimo Damiano, Emiliano Maggi, Giacomo Mancini, and Marco Bonini, released their debut album on Berlin's Kuboraum Editions in 2023. They are now recording new music at Forum Studios in Rome, a historic site where composers like Ennio Morricone and the Goblins worked, for a future publication. The project began with a performance at Emiliano Maggi's exhibition at the Nomas Foundation in Rome in 2019, featuring handmade costumes referencing 17th- and 18th-century social differentiation, alongside a pink piano. Their music blends psychedelia, prog, and folk into a cohesive journey. The collective is also reviving the Baronato Quattro Bellezze, a historic Roman venue closed for about twenty years, once run by artist Dominot, who performed in costumes with a pianist. The space, described as Fellinian and Pasolinian, was a hub for Rome's 1990s music scene. The interview was conducted by Carlotta Petracci for Artribune.
