Romain Gavras to Direct Film About Louvre Heist

French director Romain Gavras, known for Athena and Le Monde est à toi, is adapting the 2025 Louvre heist into a feature film. The project is based on the investigative book Main basse sur le Louvre by journalists Jean-Michel Décugis, Jérémie Pham-Lê, and Nicolas-Charles Torrent, releasing in French bookstores at the end of May. Gavras is co-writing the script with Simon Jacquet and Mourad Winter, with production by Iconoclast. In October 2025, thieves used a telescopic arm and cutting tools to steal jewelry worth approximately €88 million from the Galerie Apollon in just seven minutes, including emerald necklaces, sapphire diadems, and imperial brooches linked to the French Crown. The heist, dubbed the "robbery of the century" by French media, triggered an institutional crisis at the Louvre, leading to the resignation of president Laurence des Cars and prompting the French government to announce a security renovation plan. Most of the stolen treasures remain missing. The film has no cast or release date yet, but is expected in 2028.
