Romagna flood mud sold as 'artist mud' in cans to mark 2023 anniversary
In remembrance of the May 2023 floods in Romagna, Stefano Silvestroni and Marina Bergamaschi launched 'fango artista,' featuring 100 numbered cans filled with dried mud sourced from their nursery near Forlì. This initiative draws inspiration from Piero Manzoni's 'Merda d'artista' and highlights the significance of nature. The majority of these cans were sold at an art fair in Karlsruhe, with the earnings directed towards charitable causes; two cans have been set aside for Ursula von der Leyen and Giorgia Meloni. The floods inflicted nearly €9 billion in damages, yet only one-seventh of the necessary funds have been distributed. On February 23, 2024, regional president Stefano Bonaccini noted that no compensation has been issued. The Museo Carlo Zauli reopened in January 2024, and the Ravenna Festival is scheduled from May 10 to June 2, 2024.
