Romaeuropa Festival 2022: 37th Edition Opens September 8 in Rome

The 37th Romaeuropa Festival (REF) opens September 8, 2022, in Rome, running over two months across 18 theatrical venues. The program includes performances, concerts, and meetings for all ages, with sections curated by Stefania Lo Giudice (Kids), Fabrizio Grifasi (artistic director), Maura Teofili (Anni Luce), Matteo Antonaci and Giulia Di Giovanni (Line Up!), Federica Patti (Digitalive), and Francesca Manica (Dancing Days). REF reaffirms support for contemporary artistic creation without geographical or temporal boundaries, opposing violence and embracing diversity. The festival also launches the Ossigeno project for CO2 compensation and partners with UNHCR. In an interview, Grifasi defines the festival as a space of freedom and exploration, serving artists and audiences. The program balances loyalty to returning artists with over half of the 80 proposals being first-time presenters. New names include Radouan Mriziga, Benjamin Abel Meirhaeghe with Jesse Kanda, Maud Le Pladec, Lagartijas Tiradas al Sol, Rabin Mroué, Caroline Guiela Nguyen, Alexander Zeldin, Martina Badiluzzi, and Paola De Mitri. Teofili notes that Anni Luce connects with Carrozzerie | n.o.t through the Powered By Ref project, now in its third edition, supporting Under30 artists. Line Up! features an all-female lineup including LaHasna, Nava, LNDFK, Joan Thiele, and Elasi, exploring cultural and stylistic contaminations. The Eclissi Talk project by Pietro Turano is also part of the program.
