Romaeuropa Festival 2020 Program Announced Amid Pandemic

The Romaeuropa Festival has announced its 35th edition program, running from September 23 to November 22, 2020, despite the COVID-19 pandemic. The festival, directed by Fabrizio Grifasi, presents international artists including Compagnie XY with Rachid Ouramdane, Ersan Mondtag with Bokongo Nkumu, Bashar Murkus, and Arkadi Zaides, alongside Italian artists Mariangela Gualtieri with Virgilio Sieni, CollettivO CineticO, and Enzo Cosimi. The program was conceived before the crisis and is subject to change based on health regulations. Grifasi outlined potential safety measures: reduced venue capacity to ensure one square meter per spectator, mandatory masks and gloves, temperature checks, use of the Immuni app, online ticketing only, and structured entry/exit flows. Some shows may be adapted, moved to smaller venues, or streamed; unfeasible projects will be postponed to REf21. The festival aims to maintain artistic presence despite uncertainty, with a commitment to artists and audiences. Grifasi expressed hope that the pandemic will prompt reflection on slower, healthier rhythms for life and the arts.
