Roma: The Lamp exhibition explores parallel dimensions at Liminal Space
The exhibition 'The Lamp' at Liminal Space in Rome, founded by the duo Liminal State (Saverio Villirillo and Gregorio Comandini), is a speculative fiction exploring liminal spaces between consciousness and unconsciousness, fiction and reality. Visitors become actors, activating the narrative. The project is inspired by a viral Reddit story from 2012 about an anonymous user who, after a coma, experienced ten years of a parallel life. Curated with internet culture scholar Valentina Tanni, the show is divided into chapters: 'Trauma' features Borsos Lőrinc's installation 'Apparition II' recreating a car accident; 'Dissociation' presents 'Reality Quest', a multi-channel video by Tanni and Liminal State inspired by sludge content; 'Nostalgia' includes 'Backroom' by the Blivet collective, two mirrored rooms (a 1990s living room and its sterile mental projection); and 'Awakening' culminates in 'Mindscape', an immersive installation by Liminal State. The exhibition runs at Liminal Space, located off via Libetta in Rome's historic nightlife district.
