Roma Gallery Weekend 2026: 32 Galleries Across the City
The fourth edition of Roma Gallery Weekend – Contemporanea will take place from May 15 to 17, 2026, involving 32 galleries across Rome. The event opens on May 14 with Gallery Night, featuring openings and special projects. Curators Gaia Bobò, Matteo Binci, Ilaria Gianni, and Eleonora Milani have designed autonomous routes for visitors to explore galleries in neighborhoods beyond traditional art circuits. New participants include New York-based Amanita, which opened a Roman venue at Palazzo Crivelli in 2025; Cantadora, a space founded in 2025 in San Giovanni dedicated to debut artists; and Antonacci Lapiccirella Fine Art, presenting a special project by Marshall Vernet inspired by Giovanni Battista Piranesi's Roman imagery. Highlights include Gagosian's exhibition of about fifty photographs by Francesca Woodman, many previously unseen; Galleria Lorcan O’Neill showing Tracey Emin's 'You Should Have Saved Me'; Galleria Continua featuring Carlos Garaicoa's solo show on modernist utopias; and Sant'Andrea de Scaphis presenting Rudolf Stingel. The weekend also includes a series of talks and a show at Studio San Lorenzo and Soho House Rome on May 16–17. The initiative is led by Associazione Contemporanea, with president Gabriele Gaspari emphasizing galleries' crucial role in Rome's artistic ecosystem. The project references Achille Bonito Oliva's 1973 exhibition at Villa Borghese as a narrative thread.
