Roma Continua wins A Vision for Rome competition: interview with IT’S studio

architecture-design · 2026-05-19

The multidisciplinary team led by IT’S, OMA, LGSMA, OKRA, NET Engineering, and Artribune won the Call for Ideas – A Vision for Rome competition with their project Roma Continua. Established in 2023, Fondazione Roma REgeneration ETS launched the competition in 2025, sponsored by Regione Lazio and Roma Capitale. Over 1,200 professionals from 29 countries participated. In an interview, IT’S partners Alessandro Cambi and Bruna Dominici explained their multi-level strategy based on four principles: Cura (care), Movimento (movement), Bellezza (beauty), and Conoscenza (knowledge), linked to adaptive reuse. They envision an a-hierarchical city where the center is expanded into a 'city-territory'. The team conducted weekly workshops for nearly a year, crossing Rome including peripheries. For Bellezza, they mapped tourist corridors along consular roads and identified 'small poles' for local communities. For Movimento, they propose light interventions, railway upgrades, a light-rail ring, and rethinking the Grande Raccordo Anulare (GRA), noting citizens spend 72 hours yearly in traffic. For Conoscenza, they identified five 'macro fori' (Magliana, Cornelia, Appia, Togliatti, Tor di Quinto) as research districts. They advocate for a permanent observatory on Rome's evolution.
